Can you trust a dancin' dentist?

by Pat Salber

Ok, this is funny (as long as it didn't happen to you).

Syracuse NY dentist, Dr. George Trusty (really) evidently is not to be trusted - at least when he is rocking out.  The Houston Chronicle (11/3/07) reports that the good dentist was dancing while he was drilling a woman's tooth.

The patient, Brandy Fanning, heard a "snap" and felt some pain.  The dentist's drill bit snapped off and lodged near Fanning's eye.  She had to undergo emergency surgery and spend three days in the hospital as a result of the October 2004 mishap.

Last month a federal lawsuit was filed against the dancing dentist by Fanning.  She is seeking $600,000 for her medical expenses, pain and suffering.  The suit claims Dr. Trusty was "performing rhythmical steps and movements" to the song "Car Wash" that was on the radio...sounds like dancing to me.

Dancing dentists wielding drills - one more thing to worry about.

I hum along to the radio while I'm treating people (puts the pain of my dentistry into perspective) but I don't think I dance. I hope I don't dance!
